The Company of Women Kindle Edition
Recently separated from his nagging, ill-tempered wife of thirteen years, millionaire businessman Mohan Kumar decides to reinvent his life. Convinced that 'lust is the true foundation of love', he embarks on an audacious plan: he will advertise for paid lady companions to share his bed and his life. Thus begins his journey of easy, unbridled sexuality in the company of some remarkable women. There is Sarojini Bharadwai, the demure professor from small-town Haryana who surprises Mohan with her ardour and sexual energy; Molly Gomes, the free-spirited masseuse from Goa, mistress of the sensual impulse; and Susanthika Goonatilleke, the diminutive seductress from Sri Lanka. After each affair ends and before the next begins, Mohan finds solace in the practiced charms of his obliging maid, Dhanno, and in the memories of his first lovers: the American Jessica Browne, to whom he lost his virginity, and the Pakistani Yasmeen Wanchoo, who brought him the heady passion of an older woman. In The Company of Women, Khushwant Singh, India's most widely read author, has produced an uninhibited, erotic and endlessly entertaining celebration of love, sex and passion.

Some of his most celebrated works include 'Train to Pakistan', 'Delhi: A Novel', 'The Company Of Women' and many more. Review
Simple and lucidly written. Good erotica with a bit of philosophy thrown in. Overall, a brisk and entertaining read. Late Khushwant Singh most underrated book probably. --By Alok Kumar Dash on 21 April 2014
The common perception among people regarding this book is that in it the author just keeps on narrating the sexual encounters and nothing else. This is not the case. There are a variety of emotions other than sex which the protagonist goes through and they have been beautifully expressed by the author. But, yes it is an erotic novel by a person who at the time of writing it was in his eighties! --By SiSwa on 8 May 2015
Strongly recommended. After reading this book, one will become a fan of great writer Khushwant singh. 100% worth of money --By Udham TOP 500 REVIEWER on 2 April 2014 --This text refers to an alternate kindle_edition edition.

Fun in part but it seems that he ran out of ideas half way through. Not comparable to Delhi or his great works. Depressing too. Skippable

Everything is fine - and naughty - and erotic - as was the intent (culminating in the content) of KS anyway, but the whole thing is subsumed by the size of the instrument this man carries or in other words the obsession of KS, perhaps this deficiency in him -from his perception be it, that he never had the size that mattered, I can only think of this reason why he still carries in his mind all that he does even in this age - young age - perhaps he could never forgive whoever for this, so he did do all that he wanted to do thru this book anyway.

Disappointing after Train to Pakistan
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 30 March 2015Verified Purchase
I was only recently introduced to Khushwant Singh's writing in the form of Train to Pakistan and was blown away by the beautiful simplicity of its construction, its deceptively efficient characterisation and its spare conjuring of landscape. For me it was an almost perfect novel, so I had great expectations of The Company of Women. Unfortunately I was disappointed. The storyline, about a wealthy young man's series of sexual relationships, is unexciting and fairly predictable. The novel was however written when Singh was well into his eighties, not that that is really a valid excuse - and it hasn't dimmed my admiration of his wonderful Train to Pakistan.

Reviewed in Japan on 10 August 2012Verified Purchase
