JAN MOIR: Since the Queen died, I've struggled to see what the point is of the Royal Family any more. Is that wrong? Once this dignified, dutiful, much-loved matriarch left us for the great palace in the sky, she took the last drop of regal charisma with her, along with my devotion. All we are left with now is the well-meaning but essentially ho-hum next generation, the second tier on the crumbling cake, the monarchical subs' bench. If questions are raised about the value of their individual and collective roles within the UK, then the issue of their significance gets even more crucial when they venture abroad.

The programme, which went out five days later, featured a clip of Brand and co-host Matt Morgan appearing to joke about the encounter, with Morgan noting: 'It's been 25 minutes since he showed his willy to a lady.'

The heir who won an empire: How Lachlan Murdoch was brought up in New York high society

Today it was announced 92-year-old Rupert Murdoch is stepping down from his role as chairman of Fox and News Corp after 70 years - and it will be Lachlan who replaces him. The sibling rivalry to take over from Murdoch was the inspiration for hit drama Succession, to the extent that Lachlan accused his brother of leaking stories about the family to the show's writers. Although he arrived into the world in Britain, Lachlan was raised and educated as a member of New York high society. Lament4bly predict4ble... Sylvester Stallone and Jason Statham return in the fourth film of a creaky series - and the only clever thing about it is the title: BRIAN VINER reviews Expend4bles

BRIAN VINER: The smartest thing about the new Expendables movie, the fourth in the ever-creakier series, might be the title. As you can see, they have ingeniously replaced the A with a 4. Apart from that, I'm tempted to say that it's lament4bly predict4ble stuff. The last time the Expendables rolled into town, they did so literally. I was at the Cannes Film Festival in 2014 when, to promote Expendables 3, Sylvester Stallone, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Dolph Lundgren, Harrison Ford and co rumbled along the Croisette in a pair of decommissioned Soviet tanks, waving stiffly to the crowd. I recall Ford lowering himself rather gingerly out of one, his single hoop earring an almost perfect demonstration of what you might call artificial hip.

The ride, which has since been dubbed 'the craziest ride ever' is gently lowered slowly but surely, giving the allusion that all is calm. However, at the very last moment, the man is released from mid air and plunged into the unknown as we watch him swing through the air with intense speed.
